Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hot water pressure washer used for?

Hot water pressure washers are built for heavy industrial cleaning — food plant sanitation, fleet and truck degreasing, kitchen hood cleaning, and any job where the oil, grease, or protein soil won’t release with cold water alone. Heat breaks surface tension and cuts grease roughly 40% faster than cold water at the same pressure.

Most industrial cleaning jobs run between 2,000 and 4,000 PSI. Food processing and sanitation typically use 1,500–2,500 PSI with hot water and chemical. Fleet washing and heavy degreasing run 3,000–4,000 PSI. Anything above 4,000 PSI is reserved for surface stripping or heavy concrete work.

A hot water unit heats water to 180–200°F through a fuel-fired coil, then delivers it under pressure. Cold water units rely purely on pressure. Hot water cleans grease and protein-based soil faster and uses less detergent. Cold water is adequate for mud, dust, and general cleaning where soil isn’t organic.

Yes. Every Alkota hot water pressure washer is designed, engineered, and assembled in Alcester, South Dakota. The company has manufactured in the U.S. since 1964 and builds to order through a dealer network rather than mass-producing for retail inventory.
